Chicago Chaos
2007-06-16 12:49
by Ember Nickel

Rain soaks the L flag.
Was it just another loss?
Trace it back in time:

Fly ball to left field.
Demoralized team's last three
Outs come without fight.

Home run. We are drained,
Too silent to understand.
After so much...why?

Simple, blooper hit.
Immortality had been
Just five outs away.

Tension builds. Fans that
Watch at home curl into the
Fetal position.

Even afterwards
We're left with a magic tinge
That might see us through.

Insanity reigns.
All the beauty, thrown away.
Nobody knows why.

Not so far into
The game, hopeful fans recall
Verlander's triumph.

Soriano's hit
Lingers in the background on
A hot, muggy day.

Out at the ballpark
Anything is possible.
Fans coalesce...dream.
